Future Up Partners With 20 Companies and Organizations for More Sustainable and Local Raw Materials

Future Up is in discussions with 20 major parties regarding the use of more sustainable and local raw materials in our economy. The sustainable business platform initiated this call and gathered ten companies – including Strukton, Zeeman, Auping, and Weever Circulair – alongside ten organizations such as Groene Chemie Nieuwe Economie, Fair Resource Foundation, the Association of Waste Management Companies, and Nature & Environment to support a manifesto. The parties will present this manifesto to Minister Stientje van Veldhoven for Climate and Green Growth, among others.

Therefore, the parties are calling for political action to expand the market for more sustainable and local materials. They present three actions to the politicians.
1. Accelerate the resource transition via the circular lever
The circular lever is a future law that taxes new fossil materials in Dutch products and invests the revenue in circular activities. This will make fossil materials more expensive and circular materials cheaper.
2. Prioritize circular and biobased materials in procurement and tenders
The government and local authorities spend more than 100 billion euros annually. By doing this in a circular and biobased manner, they create a market for companies.
3. Utilize European legislation to make circular competitive
Upcoming European laws could encourage companies to use more reused and local materials. To stay ahead of China, the Netherlands should take full advantage of these.
“Investing in sustainable and local raw materials increases the strategic autonomy of our Dutch economy and offers ample opportunities for circular companies. It requires action from policymakers to seize these opportunities,”
says Ankie van Wersch, CEO of Future Up.
“The parties involved in our call recognize that reused and biobased materials are essential to enhance our national earning capacity with benefits for everyone. Effective legislation is needed to scale this up.”
On June 2, 2026, representatives from the twenty parties will present the call to members of the House of Representatives responsible for circular economy. On June 17, they will do the same for Minister Van Veldhoven. The first circular economy debate of the current cabinet will take place on July 1.
The circular lever in the law
Ministries and legal experts are currently developing this circular lever into a law. Consultancy firms are also working on the impact analysis of this circular lever. See here the latest parliamentary letter about the lever.
