Groene chemie, Nieuwe Economie
About
Green Opportunities
The chemical sector is fully committed to achieving the goals of the Climate Agreement for 2030. To also meet the 2050 objectives, work must be done on scaling up various promising innovations in the areas of biobased resources, recycling, and process electrification. This will lead to an industry that operates on sustainable resources and new production processes based on green energy.
The main goal of GCNE is to remove barriers to scaling up, allowing (disruptive) initiatives in the fields of biobased resources, recycling, and process electrification to scale up to industrial volumes. With this scope, GCNE has already defined several new value chains with impactful scaling initiatives from (established) companies and startups—the game changers.
Economic Opportunities
Scaling innovations and new value chains offers opportunities for new employment and the export of knowledge, processes, systems, products, and services. The Netherlands has everything needed to capitalize on these opportunities: large chemical clusters—in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, Moerdijk, Geleen, South Holland, and Groningen/Drenthe—numerous strong companies in the manufacturing, agri, and recycling sectors, knowledge institutions, and intermediaries for economic development. Together with companies, knowledge institutions, regional development agencies, and Triple Helix regions, innovative SMEs, and scale-up companies, new chains can be formed, innovations financed and scaled, and structurally favorable conditions created.
This Action Agenda for Green Chemistry and the New Economy is of national importance.
