Addressing Preconditions for Green Chemistry
So far, the development of supportive laws and regulations has focused mainly on the energy transition, as it offers the quickest potential for significant CO₂ reductions. However, to achieve climate goals by 2050, supporting policies and regulations are also essential for circular solutions in chemistry.
The Groene Chemie, Nieuwe Economie platform plays an advisory role alongside governments, financiers, and companies to assist policymakers in overcoming regulatory hurdles and creating the necessary preconditions to foster the growth of green chemistry.
The first topic on the agenda is addressing the "End-of-Waste Status."
End-of-Waste Status
With support from Invest-NL, Groene Chemie, Nieuwe Economie has investigated the issues surrounding the "End-of-Waste Status": how to establish appropriate policies and provide support for entrepreneurs working with new waste streams to reduce the use of fossil resources. This effort has resulted in three reports:
1. Problem Analysis
We engaged consultancy firm Ecomatters to map out the primary hurdles in recycling. The findings were presented on April 17, 2023, at the No Time to Waste conference.

2. Potential Solutions
Together with consultants from Rebel, we developed potential solutions, which were refined through various working sessions with representatives from government and industry.
[Read the report on possible solutions here].
3. Action Plan
Finally, Henk Pool from BinGo Results created a strategy and action plan based on the findings and building blocks from Rebel. We advocate for certification as a precursor to European regulations.

The reports from Rebel and BinGo Results were presented on November 7, 2023, to Gabriëlle Sogelée from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (I&W) and Jacqueline Vaessen from the Top Sector Chemistry at the annual event.
