Roadmap End of Waste presented in Brussels

02-04-2025

Xandra Weinbeck presented the GCNE roadmap for “end of waste” towards “Materials declaration” at The Bioeconomy Strategy event, March 27, 2025, last week Thursday at Representation of the State of Baden-Württemberg in Brussels.

Key elements of roadmap are:

  • Industry should lead with self-assessments.
  • Harmonized template (PHA) is being developed.
  • Shift from "end of waste" to "material declarations."
  • Standardization bodies (NEN, DIN) ensure quality and acceptance.
  • Private certification may follow self-assessments.
  • Internal market is best served with unified European standards system and self-assessment schemes. Adoption by at least five member states within CEN framework.
  • Certificates recognized across Europe.
  • Authorities focus on process accreditation and monitoring.
